No Beard Day - Everything About This Special Day

no beard day

To shave, or not to shave: that is the question.

There are two sides to this debate...

On the one hand, beards are continually growing in popularity, and they even have some pretty impressive fashion and health benefits. Alternatively, though, having a smooth, clean-shaven face looks and feels great. A lot of guys out there are just trying to figure out whether their beards should stay or go.

Well, stress about your facial hair no more fellas, on No Beard Day the apparent answer to this ever-complicated shaving question is to just go right ahead and sport a face that is as soft, smooth, and hairless as the day you were born.

What is No Beard Day

Although you might assume a day dedicated to the absence of facial hair would be in the springtime—since that’s when a lot of guys opt to ditch their winter beards for a clean-shaven summer face—No Beard day is celebrated on October 18.

Interestingly, there are no presidential proclamations or congressional records in the United States that give any hints as to when, where, and why this particular day began.

Even though there isn’t a clear consensus as to when and why No Beard Day originated, many fellas view it is a time to prepare their faces for the month of Movember that is rapidly approaching.

Whether you’ve had a beard for the past decade or haven’t had more than a five o’clock shadow in years, No Beard Day is a time to shave it all off. Go ahead, admire what your face looks like without any of those manly whiskers, and reevaluate your current views on facial hair. This day is the perfect opportunity to switch up your style.

no beard day celebration

How to Celebrate

First and foremost, if you’re interested in celebrating No Beard Day, go out and purchase yourself a high-quality razor. Skip those dinky little throwaway blades you buy in a ten pack at the drugstore, and buy a reusable one that will last you for years. Don’t be afraid to go a little crazy. I even suggest splurging on some of those grooming accessories you’ve been admiring for a while. Shaving creams, brushes, and aftershaves—nothing is off limits here. No Beard Day is an occasion to treat your face with the love and care that it deserves.

If you want to get super festive, consider hosting a shave party. Invite a few friends over, grab some drinks, chow down on some manly snacks, and say goodbye to unsightly facial hair. Alternatively, if hosting a party isn’t your thing, just venture out and support your local barbershop by treating yourself to a professional shave.

Braun Series 7 790cc Review - The Most Popular Electric Shaver

The Braun Series 7 shavers are constantly picked as the top sellers and most reviewed year after year. The reason why is simple: They do the job well. If you are in the market for a new electric razor, then this article is one you want to read.

In this article, you will learn about the Braun 790cc; its features, what comes in the box, the pros, the cons and how it compares to the other series 7 shavers.

At the end you will get enough knowledge to make the decision if this electric razor is right for you.

A Quick Glance at the 790-cc

SUMMARY

Probably the most popular electric shaver. It delivers a high quality close shave and will compete with most of the high-end models out there.

THE GOOD

  • Close shave, to 0.05mm
  • Automatic cleaning & charging
  • Comfortable ergonomic design

THE BAD

  • Dry only shaving
  • Pricey

SPECS

  • Battery: 50 Minutes
  • Charging Time: 1 Hour
  • Wet / Dry: No
  • Shaver Type: Foil

Overview of the Shaver

The 790cc is very lightweight and made of durable plastic and rubber to provide years of service. Braun took the time to design the shaver to ergonomic standards specifically. The lighter weight helps prevent fatigue while shaving and the handle design keeps all of the buttons and features within easy reach of a finger without having to fumble around with both hands.

The cordless shaver is ultra-portable and has its very own travel case so you can toss it in your gym back or briefcase and head out the door. It also comes with a charging station that can fully charge the shaver in one hour as well as clean the head while it does so.

The shaver is waterproof so shaving while in the shower is possible. However, Braun has not cleared the 790cc for wet/dry shaving. If you want the wet/dry certification, you will need to look for another series 7 shaver.

Sometimes you'll see that model numbers have an addition to their number. The -x addition specifies a newer iteration of the same model, with minor changes. For example 790cc-4 is the fourth iteration.

Features of the 790cc

The series 7 shavers are packed full of features and options, and the 790cc is no different.

  • Adjustable shaving modes provide five preset speeds allowing you to select the speed you prefer
  • LCD screen shows the status of the battery and hygiene of the blades
  • Built-in trimmer to trim beards, sideburns and your mustache
  • Full rubber back allows a solid grip even when wet
  • 3 cutting elements: two foil covered blades for cutting hair close to the skin and a central ActiveLIft cutter designed for lifting flat laying hair and hard to reach areas
  • Pivoting head up to 40 degrees with a locking ability for shaving in tough areas like under the nose

Build Quality & Reliability

The plastic and rubber machine is very light (less than half a pound) and at first, may feel easily breakable. The plastic is very durable, and the rubber coating on the back allows for a nice firm grip.

The entire shaver is ergonomically designed to reduce hand fatigue while shaving. The metal foil covers have independent suspension and along with the pivoting head offer eight direction movement to adjust to any contour of your face.

The shaver is very reliable regarding use and longevity. Reviews have been left noting they have used their 790cc for over five years without any issues at all.

The warranty is the basic Braun 2-year limited warranty that covers defects and craftsmanship. It does not cover neglect, damage caused from misuse or the replaceable head.

The 790cc User Experience

When it comes down to it, the actual shave it what matters the most. Having an automatic cleaner and rechargeable battery doesn't serve you well if the shave isn’t up to par. However, the 790cc, as well as the rest of the series 7 shavers, are popular for a reason: they do their job.

Battery

The battery will last up to 50 minutes on a full charge. If you have let the battery die and needed to shave, you also have the option of a quick charge. You can charge the battery for 5 minutes that will provide enough power to the shaver for one shave. This is such a great feature and I love it.

Once you charge the battery, you can remove the charging cord to save energy. The 790cc will hold the charge without being used for several days. The charging cord isn’t very long (only about 16 inches), so you will need to place the docking station close to an outlet. However, the station isn’t very large, and you won’t have to fight for counter space.

When you are on the go, you can use the shaver without charging for a few days before the battery will die.

Shaving Experience

If you have gone a few days without shaving, the 790cc will still power through even the coarsest hairs. According to Braun, their shave technology is such that you reduce irritation by not having to go over the same spot twice.

This may be accurate if you shave every day. There is a noticeable decline in shave time and repeated shaving in certain spots. However, if your hair is thicker, or you have gone a while without a shave, you will need to cover most areas at least twice.

You will shave your beard down to 0.005 millimeters which is just as close as a razor blade. The average time to shave is faster than a razor and quicker than most other electric razors on the market. The 790cc also has the ability to lift stubborn hairs and take care of hard to reach areas easily; further reducing your shave time.

The variable speed settings didn’t take away from the shave and made little if any, noticeable difference to the shaver. Lower settings (designed for sensitive skin) did affect the noise of the head, but it was slight.

Because Braun has not certified the 790cc as a wet or dry shaver, using foams and gels will void the warranty. They will also clog the foils and spread the foam around, instead of removing it like a razor.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Cleaning the shaver is very easy: pass the head under running water. When you are finished shaving a quick rinse is really all it needs. You also have the advantage of a cleaning from the charging dock as well. The alcohol-based solution will deep clean the head and dry it before your next use.

Alternatively, you can use the included cleaning brush to wipe off the coils, but it takes a lot longer and does a poor job compared to the cleaning dock and running water.

Comparing 790cc to Other Shavers

The Braun Series 7 shavers consist of the 790cc, the 760cc, and the 799cc.

790cc vs 799cc

  • The 790cc is dry only shaving where the 799cc is wet or dry
  • They both make use of lithium-ion batteries that allow for quick charge and longer run time
  • The cleaning docks are identical and both clean, dry and report the hygiene level of the heads

790cc vs 760cc

  • The shavers themselves are identical. The colors (790cc is silver, the 760cc is black) are the only differences in the shavers
  • The charging station of the 760cc has features removed: no quick clean option, hygiene indication is removed and no automatic cleaning mode
  • Everything else is identical between the two models

790cc vs 799cc

  • The 799cc is a wet/dry shaver, and the 790cc is dry only
  • They have identical cleaning and charging docks
  • Every other feature is identical in the two models

Who Should Buy the 790cc

Any man looking for a close, comfortable shave without a lot of hassle should seriously consider the Braun 790cc. If you are on a budget, the 790cc offers significant savings over the Braun 9 series and does a great job.

However, if you are the type that likes to shave in the shower, or use foams and gels with your electric razor, the 790cc is not going to be your best option. You can, instead, look at the other series 7 shavers for wet/dry shaving and the use of shaving creams.

5 Best Alum Blocks - the Perfect Way to Finish Your Shave

Whether you’re using a blade that is too dull or are trying to race through your shaving routine a little too quickly, razors can cause some major skin irritation. Virtually any man who has ever shaved his face can attest to how uncomfortable nicks and cuts can be.

What if I told you, that dabbing your face with a tissue to get bleeding to stop isn’t the only way to remedy an unpleasant shaving experience?

Gentlemen, I introduce to you, the alum block.

Not only can this versatile block quickly stop nicks and cuts from bleeding, but it also contains beneficial astringent properties. I’ve gathered up some background information, important factors to consider, and product reviews so that finding the best alum block isn’t a confusing decision.

Our Top Picks

What is an Alum Block?

Even though you might not have heard of them before, alum blocks are far from being a new invention. In fact, many historians believe that over 4,000 years ago Ancient Egyptians used alum for its antibacterial properties.

Our ancestors were no strangers to the many benefits of alum and were well aware of its usefulness. Common uses that have some old school roots include using it as a deodorant, adding it to water for purification purposes, and, of course, applying it to nicks and cuts to help stop bleeding.

Without getting too technical, alums are chemical compounds that contain a group of hydrated double salts. General characteristics of alums are that they tend to be acidic, have astringent properties, and are colorless, odorless, and dissolvable in hot water.

Usually, if you hear about alum, it’s about potash alum, also known as, potassium aluminum sulfate. Not only is it an ingredient in some deodorants, but you'll see it at the grocery store used in baking powders and pickling agents.

Potash alum is a naturally occurring mineral. Alum blocks that are made with this compound help to clean and disinfect the skin after shaving and the antimicrobial properties are what make it useful in deodorants.

There are a few different kinds of alum, though. If you start paying close attention to labels, you’ll likely come across chrome, soda, ammonium, and selenate alums as well. Most commonly, it's available as a powder, but it’s sold in a crystalline form as well. In the realm of grooming products, you’ll most likely see it as a large crystal. For example, it’s often advertised as a deodorant block that is intended for underarm use, or an alum block for shaving.

In short, there’s a ton of different ways alum is available. As a rule of thumb, when it comes to finding an excellent quality bar to use after shaving, keep an eye out for potassium aluminum sulfate.

Why You Need an Alum Block?

Alum block can be such a great addition to your shaving tool box.

Stop the Bleeding

As I’ve mentioned above, alum blocks do an amazing job at cleansing the skin. The astringent properties help to tighten your pores, and its ability to restrict blood vessels rapidly stops bleeding caused by nicks and cuts.

Not only is it unsanitary to walk around with open cuts, but it can also make the shaving process take longer than it has to. There’s truly no need to spend an extra amount of time trying to stop and clean up the bleeding. On busy mornings, I know I’ll take all of the help I can get to get headed out the door more quickly.

Improves Your Shaving Technique

Another perk of using an alum block is that it helps you to become more aware of how good of a shave you are getting. For example, if you’re using a dull razor or a low-quality shaving cream, you may be nicking your facial skin but are unaware because no sign of blood is present. When you use an alum block, as the pores constrict, it will cause you to feel a stinging sensation wherever these invisible cuts may be. I think of the sting as a helpful way to keep me aware of the how well my shaving products and techniques are doing.

Great Moisturizer

The astringent properties in alum blocks pull moisture out of the skin. So, if you have sensitive skin, be cautious when using these blocks because there is a chance that it can cause excessive dryness. Many guys don’t have an adverse effect when using this product, though. For men with oily skin, alum is a great, natural way to reduce grease and combat against breakouts popping up.

Cheap & Natural

They are inexpensive, long-lasting, and natural. Compared to fancy aftershaves and astringents, you can get a great quality alum bar at a low price point. The low cost of the bars become even more attractive after considering how long these products last. When properly cared for, a lot of alum blocks out there will last you well over a year. Lastly, I don’t like to worry about what chemical fillers are in my grooming products, so the fact that these bars are natural is a huge plus for me.

Is There an Alternative?

As an alternative to alum blocks, you can always consider using an astringent, such as witch hazel, or an alcohol-based aftershave. You can find some rather inexpensive, pure witch hazel astringents out there at a fairly low cost. Witch hazel can dry out your skin though, so be careful if you have sensitive skin.

Alternatively, some aftershaves are packed full of chemical additives, so make sure to read labels carefully. Some good quality aftershaves can also be quite pricey, but on the plus side, many of them are available in wonderful fragrances and feel cool when applied to the skin.

Lastly, you can use a styptic pencil as a spot treatment for nicks and cuts, but I like that alum bars are intended for use on the entire face.

What to Look for When Buying an Alum Block

ADD ALT TEXT FROM METADATA FILE

During your quest to find the best alum block, you’re going to find that there are many products that seem similar. I just suggest paying attention to the following:

  • Price
  • Packaging
  • Ingredient list

It’s not necessary to shell out a bunch of cash to get a quality block. Alum blocks are typically available in sizes between two to four ounces, so keep that in mind when price-comparing.

Some packaging includes travel cases, so that may be an accessory that interests you.

It’s also important to note that there are some products out there that are marketed as alum blocks, but don’t actually contain real alum. Make sure to read ingredient lists to make sure that you are purchasing the real thing.

5 Best Alum Blocks - Reviews

SPECS

  • 3.7 ounce (100 grams)
  • Scentless

THE GOOD

  • Large size
  • Travel case
  • Fragrance-free
  • 100% potassium alum
  • Very affordable

THE BAD

  • Surface can become rough
  • Cheap packaging
  • Discoloration may occur

GENERAL OVERVIEW

The Gentlemen Jon Shaving Company makes a lot of fantastic quality shaving products. This company’s alum block is a fairly inexpensive option. Regarding packaging, the block is inside of a plastic traveling case, which is a great bonus.

Weighing in at 3.7 ounces, this block is sold in a larger size than many of its competitors. Thanks to its large size, this product is designed to last for many months to even a year. It’s also 100% potassium alum, making it a completely natural astringent and antiseptic.

USAGE

This product has a ton of positive reviews. A lot of users appreciate that it is fragrance-free.

Since the block is composed of densely pressed-powder, there are some reports that the surface can become jagged and a little rough. It’s ideal to have a block that remains smooth after many uses, so this is a bit of a downfall.

Lastly, unlike styptic pencils that work almost instantly after touching a nick, you may have to pass over small cuts multiple times before bleeding stops.

WHO IS IT BEST FOR?

Since this brand is fragrance-free, it is a suitable option for men with sensitive skin.

VERDICT

While it might not be the highest quality alum block that is available, for the price, it’s a great option. I especially appreciate that it comes with a carrying case. If this block is going to last around a year, it’s certainly a good idea to have somewhere safe to store it.

SPECS

  • 2.65 ounce (75 grams)
  • Scentless

THE GOOD

  • Handmade
  • All-natural astringent
  • Made with high-quality potassium alum

THE BAD

  • Small size
  • Doesn’t come with travel case

GENERAL OVERVIEW

Bloc Osma is a French company that has been around for over seventy years. Unlike some other brands, this company’s alum block is handmade.

The cost of this product is at the lower end of the price range, which is a good thing because this block also comes in a smaller size than many of its competitors. Bloc Osman doesn’t sell a travel case along with this bar, so it just comes in a fairly basic cardboard packaging.

The only ingredient in this block is potassium alum, so there is no need to worry about any fillers or preservatives. Since the bar is only 2.65 ounces, it won’t last you as long as some other brands out there, but it’s safe to say it should last you for at least several months.

USAGE

A lot of users have reported that they’ve seen a decrease in facial skin irritation after using this product. The block is very smooth to touch and easily glides over the skin. If you end up nicking yourself while shaving, the block is capable of quickly stopping the bleeding. This product is also fragrance-free

WHO IS IT BEST FOR?

This product can be used by just about anybody. There’s no special ingredients added to it, so it doesn’t offer any unique added benefits, but it still offers the antimicrobial perks that are associated with skincare items made out of alum.

VERDICT

While I wouldn’t say this is the best alum block, it’s a very good product. It’s available at a fair price, which is nice, but it also comes in a smaller size than a lot of other blocks on the market, and it doesn’t come with a carrying case.

SPECS

  • 2.15 ounce (60 grams)
  • Scentless

THE GOOD

  • High-quality alum
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Fragrance-free
  • Convenient application

THE BAD

  • Small size
  • Packaging not sturdy

GENERAL OVERVIEW

Based out of Italy, RazoRock initially began as a small company specializing in creating artisan-shaving products. Thanks to popular reviews on the Internet, this brand quickly grew in popularity and is now available internationally.

The alum block comes in packaging that slightly resembles a deodorant stick, which makes it easy for travel. The size of the stick is 2.15 ounces. When factoring in size, it’s no the cheapest alum product out there, but it’s not the most expensive either.

Due to its small size, the alum stick isn’t going to last as long as some of its competitors. I’d guess with daily use it will still last quite a few months though. Lastly, this stick is composed of naturally occurring potassium alum mineral salts.

USAGE

Thanks to the packaging of this product, it can easily be used as a deodorant. Obviously, I recommend purchasing a separate one for face and armpits! This stick has a lot of favorable reviews, and many guys enjoy that it is hypoallergenic and fragrance-free.

The application is easy, and it goes on smooth, but quite a few users comment that it doesn’t stop bleeding as effectively as some other similar products out there.

WHO IS IT BEST FOR?

If you travel a lot, or you are tight on space in your bathroom, the compact size of this stick makes it a great option. Since it’s fragrance-free and hypoallergenic, it should be effective for most skin types.

VERDICT

The unique packaging of this product distinguishes it from competitors. It’s moderately priced, so I wouldn’t categorize it is a great value item, but it’s certainly still more cost effective than many other aftershave options.

Note: It has come to my attention that people who bought this alum block received the 'block version' and not the 'stick version'. Make sure to verify it before buying.

SPECS

  • 2.72 ounces (75 grams)
  • Scentless

THE GOOD

  • Trusted company
  • Long-lasting
  • 100% potassium alum

THE BAD

  • Small size
  • Easily breaks if dropped
  • Doesn’t come with a travel case

GENERAL OVERVIEW

Taylor of old Bond Street is a British company that has been around since the 1800s. Taylor of Bond Street is well known for creating high-quality shaving accessories.

Compared to the competition, this alum block comes at a pretty hefty price point. This block weighs in at 2.72 ounces and does not come with a carrying case. As with other similar blocks, when cared for correctly, this product can last you for several months. Lastly, it is made out of real, potassium alum.

USAGE

Users report that this block is extremely soothing to irritated facial skin, and it rapidly seals up small nicks and cuts. Unlike some other brands, this bar stays smooth for a long time. There are no added fragrances, so you can still use your favorite aftershaves and colognes.

WHO IS IT BEST FOR?

This alum bar is a great option for just about any guy. There are no crazy additives, so men with oily, normal, dry, or sensitive skin should be okay using the bar. Since it doesn’t come with a carrying case, though, if you travel a lot this may not be the best option for you.

VERDICT

This is a good quality product that is manufactured by a trusted company, but I think that you can get a better deal by purchasing some of the other brands out there.

SPECS

  • 4.4 ounce (125 grams)
  • Scentless

THE GOOD

  • Carrying case
  • Large size
  • Made out of naturally occurring alum

THE BAD

  • Thin plastic case may break

GENERAL OVERVIEW

Parker is a well known company in the shaving business. This block weighs four ounces, which is considerably larger than most of its competition. The large size may explain why the price is on the higher end as well. The packing of this product isn’t anything special, but it does come with a plastic carrying case. Similar to the other blocks I’ve reviewed, this product is made out of potassium alum and should last for months, if not years

USAGE

A lot of reviewers feel that this is a great alum block. It’s free of any added fragrances, and it does a good job stopping small cuts from bleeding after a short amount of time.

WHO IS IT BEST FOR?

Since it’s just composed of alum, the block is suitable for all skin types. The carrying case that it comes with makes it a decent option for guys who travel frequently.

VERDICT

A lot of guys seem to be happy with this product. They can do a better job with the storage plastic. This is a huge block that will last you for a long time (years).

Braun Series 7 vs 9 - Should You Buy Or Upgrade?

Braun released what is arguably the most popular and reviewed electric razors with the series 7 models. Since then they have also released the series 9 line up.

Which series is better and which one should you consider when choosing an electric razor?

This article will discuss the differences between the series and compare them side by side to give you a better idea of what is offered from each series. You will learn the pros and cons of each series as a whole as well as what features and options are available within each series.

Series 7 and 9 Model Numbers

There are different models within each series, all of which have different features, colors, or attributes. When you look at the model numbers, you will see that each model ends in an alpha key: either cc or s. This refers to the charging and cleaning station and if that particular model has one (cc) or does not (s).

Series 7

I wrote a series 7 round up that compares the popular models from this series. Here's a quick table that will show you the different models in series 7.

Series 7 and 9:  Quick Overview

Each model within a series will have different features added or removed, as well as different color schemes. However, the actual shaving performance used in each series is identical. Therefore, this article will not compare specific models and will instead focus on comparing the series as a whole.

Price

The series 9 is the latest iteration of the Braun family of shavers. It is the premium series and costs more up front than the series 7 does. The replacement cartridges also cost more than those of the series 7.

If you opt for the series 9 models, you will pay more for the shaver both initially and in the long run with the replacement parts.

Wet and Dry Shave

wet shaving norelco 4100

Both series offer models that are dry shave only as well as models that are certified as wet or dry shave. With a wet or dry shave model, you can use the shaver in the shower or with foams and gels.

It should be noted that the use of foams and gels is not required and if you do use them, you need to clean the foam from the foils before placing the unit in the cleaning station.

Cleaning Station

Both series offer models with a cleaning station. The series 9 station is smaller and more user-friendly. It will charge and clean the unit with only a single button. It also uses a fan to dry the alcohol solution from the heads. This drying process takes about 40 minutes.

The series 7 cleaning station, on the other hand, uses induction heat to dry the solution and runs silently. It will dry the razor in about 15 minutes.

While they are similar, you cannot use one series cleaning station with a different series shaver.

Personalization Modes

Series 7 offers an adjustable speed control to better prevent irritation and redness of sensitive skin. You can adjust the speed in either 3 or 5 stages (based on the model) although there is little-reported evidence the speed controls help or hinder the shave experience.

Series 9 doesn't have personalization modes. Instead a new technology was implemented called SyncroSonic. The shaver automatically adjusts the power according to your beard's density.

Accessories

Depending on your purchase of a cc model or an s model, you will receive a cleaning and charging station (cc) or you won’t (s).

Besides the cleaning station, in the series 7 box, you will also receive a travel pouch (leather in the 799cc and hard-shelled vinyl in the rest), a dry cleaning brush, and a Smartplug power cord.

In the series 9 box, you will unpack a dry cleaning brush, a Smartplug power cord, a travel case and a charging stand.

Display

The series 7 uses an LCD screen on the bottom of the unit to display the battery charge and foil hygiene level. The series 9 removed the LCD from the bottom and placed it in the front of the unit similar to the LED placement in the series 5.

The series 9 model display will show you the battery charge, hygiene level, and travel lock position.

Travel Case

Each model in both series comes with a travel case. Hard-shelled vinyl with the sole exception of the 799cc model with has premium leather. The cases will hold the shaver, the dry cleaning brush, and the power cord so you can take your razor with you at any time.

Face off - Series 7 vs 9

It's time for the series 7 vs series 9 face-off, I'll go over several categories and state the winner for each category.

1. User Experience 7 vs. 9

How the shavers perform is the most important aspect of your purchase decision. How well it shaves, how fast it can complete the job and how well the battery performs are all key markers for an electric razor.

Battery

Each of the models in both series uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. You can charge the battery to full in one hour on both versions. You also have the ability for a quick charge option that will give you enough battery power for a single shave in only five minutes of charging time.

The batteries will last up to 50 minutes on a full charge, which should be plenty of time for multiple shaves.

Shaving Time

The Series 9 has a distinct advantage in overall shaving time. While the series 7 is quick enough for most men, the series 9 is just a little faster. The extra cutting edge will take down longer hairs more efficiently than the single edge of the series 7 head.

You can shave at a faster pace without worry of irritation, tugging or pulling of hairs and will be complete sooner than with the series 7.

Shaving Head

The series 7 models use a three-part head comprised of two foil blades and a central cutting edge that is designed to lift hairs and trim longer ones, so the foils have an easier time.

On the series 9 cartridge head, there is a 4th element. A titanium-coated HyperLift & Cut blade designed to aid the central cutting blade in taking down longer, more dense hair.

Shaving Quality

More important than speed is the quality of the shave. In this instance, the two series are almost identical. The series 9 slightly outperforms the series 7 in closeness, but it would be difficult to tell without a side by side shave and compare.

The series 9, as well as the series 7, offers cooling coil technology that keeps the foils and cutting blades cool while in use. Unlike some of the previous series where the center blade gets warm to the skin, the series 7 and 9 razors stay cool.

The series 9 cooling technology works just a little bit better than the series 7, and you will notice the cooler coils on your face.

Closeness is what counts, and both models will take your beard down to 0.05 millimeters. However, the series 9 seems to be more efficient, faster and even closer than the series 7.

  • Winner: User Experience

The series 9 outperforms the series 7 in shaving time, quality, and closeness, even if just by a small margin.

2. Build and Design 7 vs. 9

The series 7 models were completely redesigned with a major focus on ergonomics and reducing fatigue. The series 9 did little to improve on this. The chrome models of the series 9 also smudge and show fingerprints which are near impossible to avoid.

The series 9 is made entirely of plastic (with the exception of the blades and foils) where the series 7 models have a metal head. The series 9 models are larger in size and a bit heavier, but the focus on ergonomics is not diminished.

The weight is balanced well, and the bigger size allows for a quick shave.

Grip

The series 7 makes use of a rubber back that provides a firm and solid grip even when wet or covered in shaving foam. The series 9 models kept this same grip, and it works just as well in both versions.

With the solid grip from the rubber back, you are free to safely and effortlessly maneuver the shaver around your face and neck. Ensuring a proper grip also alleviates hand fatigue and irritation.

Trimmer

Both series offer a pop-up trimmer that will help maintain sideburns and mustaches. As with any pop-up trimmer, the results are sub-par, however, with a couple of extra passes, the hairs will be removed.

Pivot Head Lock

One vast improvement is in the pivoting head lock. The series 7 has reported issues with the locking mechanism breaking if it is locked and too much pressure is applied. The series 9 addresses this issue by removing the locking mechanism and allowing the head to snap into different positions.

You can still apply too much pressure and move the head into a different position slot, but there is no mechanism to break if that is done.

  • Winner: Build and Design

Tie. Both series 7 and series 9 are ergonomic and built well. Each shaver will last for years with the proper care.

3. Cleaning and Maintenance 7 vs. 9

Unless you opt to save a tiny bit of money and get a model that does not have a cleaning and charging station, your maintenance will be almost nonexistent. The cleaning station will clean, sanitize and lubricate the cartridge with a single press of a button.

All you have to do is place the shaver in the docking station and press the button, and the station does the rest. You will have to replace the alcohol-based solution, but this is easily done. Replacement solution packs are readily available.

The series 9 cleaning station is sleeker and only as the single button for activation. However, it uses a fan to dry the shaver which, while quieter than most other fan driers, still makes noise. The series 7 cleaning station uses induction heat to dry the shaver faster and in silence.

General upkeep also means that you need to remove any foam or gel that may be on the head before using the cleaning station. The foam and gels will clog the cleaning station which will prevent it from doing a proper job.

  • Winner: Cleaning and Maintenance

The series 7 cleaning station has a slight advantage over the series 9. Quicker dry time and silent activation put it just above the series 9 models.

Who Should Buy Which Version?

If you are looking for an electric shaver that balances cost, efficiency, comfort, and reliability, the series 7 models may be the best option. The series 7 is still the most popular shaver on the market based on sales and reviews. It is perfect for those with sensitive skin who shave daily and who may have coarse facial hair.

On the other hand, if you are looking for the most features, the fastest shave time and the absolute premium shaver available, then the series 9 might be your choice. If you shave other day ever, or longer, have very thick or very coarse hair and need the fastest shave available, then the series 9 is where you should focus your search.

Depending on your skin type, how thick and coarse your beard grows as well as how often you need to shave the right model for you will vary.

Upgrading From 7 to 9

If you already own a series 7 model, should you upgrade to the series 9? Will the upgrade be worth it?

That depends on your hair type, your desire for a speedy shave and how satisfied you are with the series 7. If you are comfortable with the closeness of the shave that the series 7 provides and you don’t think you need a speed improvement, then an upgrade won’t be worth the cost.

However, if you need a faster shave, or if for some reason the series 7 isn’t shaving close enough for your liking, then the upgrade to a series 9 might be worth a serious thought. You will see an increase in shave speed, and you may notice a closer shave with less effort.

However, those will be the only advantages you will probably see. If that is worth the extra cost of the series 9, then you should upgrade your shaver.

When everything is broken down and compared side by side, there is no clear winner between the series 7 and the series 9. Some improvements have been made to the pivoting head locking feature and the LCD screen. However, in terms of shaving performance, the two series are near identical.

Overview of the Shaver

The 3040s is designed for the budget conscious and beginner electric razor user. If you have never used an electric razor before, the 3040s is designed to make the transition quick and easy.

If you don’t want to spend over $200 for a top-of-the-line style shaver with all the added bells and whistles, the 3040s has you covered too. You have just enough features to get a nice, comfortable shave without having to spend too much money.

The 3040s is a foil shaver with 3 cutting surfaces. The design is the same as it is in the Braun series 7 and series 9 trimmers. The 3040s however, does not have a pivoting head. The two edge heads are covered in foil that collects the hairs so the blades can cut them. The center cutter lifts hair and cuts through coarse beards with relative ease.

Cordless design, the 3040 uses a Nickle Metal Hydride (NiMH) rechargeable battery that will offer up to 45 minutes of shave time on a single charge. You also have the option of quick charge where you can get enough battery power for a single shave in just five minutes.

The 3040s is also wet/dry certified and can be used with foam, gel or creams. Cleaning the head is done by rinsing it off under running water. The entire unit is also 100 percent waterproof allowing you to use it while in the shower if that is your preference.

Accessories - What Do You Get

Inside the box you will find a spare blade head (marked packages only). The heads are designed to be replaced about every 12 to 15 months. When you purchase the 3040s, you will have two years’ worth of heads already.

You will then find the cleaning brush inside the box. The brush is meant to help clean the heads when dry by brushing out loose clippings and debris. The power cord is also included. This will be used to charge your shaver when the battery gets low.

Lastly, you will find the shaver itself. It already has a small charge on the battery so you can test it. However, it is recommended you give the shaver a full charge before using it on your face.

Unlike the series 7 and 9 shavers, you do not get a travel pouch or charging and cleaning station. To save costs, Braun has left these things out. However, you get a head cover that does extend down past the On/Off switch to prevent it from being activated while packed in a bag for travel.

Build Quality & Reliability

The 3040s has an ergonomic design that provides a firm grip and it's very easy to maneuver. Even when the unit is wet, it still holds firmly in your hand.

The plastic and rubber design is solid and rugged and assembled well. The black plastic has both glossy and matte finishes, and the rubber has added bumps to provide grip with wet or covered in foam.

The weight is nice, and the entire unit feels sturdy and firm in your hand. The reliable shaver comes with the standard Braun two-year warranty. The warranty will cover defects in craftsmanship but will not cover damage due to accidents, misuse or neglect. It also does not cover the blade heads as these are designed to wear out and be replaced.

Features of the 3040s

The feature list of the 3040s is kept fairly small. Designed to be without frills and a shaver that just does its job.

The shaving head uses the familiar three-cutting head system. Two foil blades for shorter hair and stubble and the middle blade for longer and more difficult hairs. The middle blade has a ring around it with guide slots designed to guide hairs to the blade more efficiently.

The body also has a long hair trimmer that you can slide up with your thumb. This will help trim sideburns and mustaches. You will also find a battery level indicator that is 3 LED lights.

The shaver is waterproof and has rubber sides to provide good grip even when wet. Since it is also certified wet/dry usage, you can also use the shaver with shaving cream, foam, and gel.

As a safety feature, you cannot operate the shaver with the charging cord attached. You can charge the battery to full in about an hour or use the quick charge setting to charge the battery in five minutes. The quick charge feature will only provide enough battery power for a single shave.

3040s User Experience

The shave and general user experience is what's important, and the 3040s does its job.

Battery

The battery in the 3040s is a NiMH rechargeable battery that will provide up to 45 minutes of run time on a single charge. It will recharge from dead to full in just about an hour. However, if you are in a hurry, you can opt for the quick charge and let the battery recover for five minutes. Doing so will prove enough power to shave one time.

The NiMH battery will hold a charge, unused, for several days. Unlike a Lithium-ion, though, it will start to diminish after a few days. The charging cord isn’t very long and will need to be placed close to an outlet to charge the unit.

Shaving Experience

When dry shaving the razor holds up very well. If you do prefer to dry shave, you will notice that the more frequent you shave, the better your results will be. The razor does have a tendency to have issues with longer hairs, such as those that occur when you only shave every other day or every two days. (That's quite normal for a foil shaver)

Another drawback to the dry shave is the middle blade does heat up, and you can feel it get hot against your skin.

Wet shaving though, is completely different. No heat buildup, the foam and gels get taken away instead of smeared, and the overall shave is closer and with virtually no tugging, pulling or irritation.

One highlight of the 3040s shaver is that unlike most other foil shavers, there is not a lot of noise. The entire unit is quieter than expected.

Longer hairs will need a couple of extra passes, and the side trimmer doesn’t do a perfect job, even after a few passes on the sideburns, you may still have to go back again.

Overall the experience is good. You will not have irritation or razor burn; the shave is comfortable and close.

Cleaning & Maintenance

The 3040s does not come with a cleaning station. You can use the brush to dust off the foils or run the unit under water. Rinsing in running water is the better option. You can also remove the head from the unit and clean it under water and use your fingers to knock loose any clippings or debris.

The shaved head should be replaced, on average, about every 12 to 15 months. You will be able to tell when the blades begin to get dull as you will have more pulling and snagging when you shave.

The replacement heads are easily found and are a decent price.

Comparing 3040s to Other Series 3 Shavers

The Braun series 3 line up has three different models:

  • 3040s
  • 3050cc
  • 3080s

I'll compare the 3040s to the other series 3 models.

3040s vs. 3050cc

  • Both units have rechargeable NiMH batteries with quick charge capabilities.
  • The 3050cc comes with a charging and cleaning station (CC) the (S) models do not.
  • The colors are changed with the 3040s being blue on black, and the 3050cc is black on blue.
  • The models both use the same shaving heads.
  • Each of the models can be used wet or dry.

3040s vs. 3080s

  • The coloring on the 3080s is black with a small blue accent around the power button
  • The 3080s comes with a travel pouch; the 3040s does not.
  • The batteries are identical in each unit and allow for the quick charge option.
  • Both models are certified for wet/dry use and for use with foam or gel.

Who Should Buy the 3040s

Anyone looking for a quality electric shaver that doesn’t mind giving up premium features to shave from paying premium prices will benefit from the 3040s.

If you have never used an electric razor or are on a budget, the 3040s could be the option for you. You won’t have a lot of things the more expensive shavers offer, such as pivoting heads, automatic cleaning, and charging. However, you will save quite a bit of money and get a very good close shave.

How to Clean & Maintain an Electric Shaver - for a Tip Top Razor

how to clean and maintain an electric shaver

You would be surprised how many people don’t regularly clean their electric razor.  Maybe you don’t think it needs cleaning or perhaps the idea of taking apart your razor intimidates you because there are a few parts.  I’m here to help and make sure your razor stays in top condition.

I’ll talk about why it’s important to keep your razor clean, and it’s not just to get the best shave every time, although that is a crucial factor.  I’ll also provide you with a step by step instruction guide on how to clean your razor, including tips on how you can maintain your razor and prolong its life.

Importance of Proper Maintenance

There are two main reasons you want to keep your electric shaver clean and perform regular maintenance: safe and clean shaves with each use and a longer life for your shaver.

Prolonging the Life of Your Electric Shaver

The best way to keep your razor around for a long time is to clean and maintain it.  You probably did a fair amount of research on electric shavers and spent a decent amount of money on your razor.  Why waste that time and money by not keeping it in top condition?

Cleaning the razor, performing proper maintenance like changing blades and keeping it lubricated, as well as charging it correctly all mean your razor will last for a long time.  This saves you the hassle of finding a new razor and keeps money in your wallet, which is a huge win.

A Better, Closer Shave

We all want the best shave every time we use our razor, that’s why most of us spent the money on an electric razor.

The best way to get a nice, clean shave is to keep your razor as clean as possible.  Those same oils that gunk up the blade and cause it to corrode can also get dull without regular cleaning. You know what happens with a dull blade?  Missed spots, nicks, pulled skin, razor burn, and all around an unpleasant shaving experience.

If you keep the blades clean and change them when they need it, you will always have a great shave.  Even simple things like charging the razor only when it needs it and keeping it in a case will preserve your razor and keep your face smooth and irritation free.

Electric Shaver Maintenance

I know it sounds like maintaining your razor is a huge ordeal and will take extra time out of your day.  Trust me, it’s not that difficult, and it will only take a few minutes.  Here are the simple things you can do to keep your razor clean and running smoothly.

1. Clean Your Shaver

I will give you step by step instructions on how to clean your razor later, but I want to emphasize how important it is to keep your razor clean.  This is the number one thing you can do to prolong the life of your razor and give you the safest, cleanest shave.

You want to regularly clean out the blade of your razor because hair and oil that gets stuck there will prevent a close shave.  Those things will also erode the integrity of your blade, making it duller and harder to get a good shave.

It’s also possible for bacteria to grow in your electric shaver.  Bacteria from your skin can sit in the well of the blade.  If you happen to cut yourself while shaving, then bacteria can get into the open wound and cause a nasty infection.  Regular cleaning will prevent this and keep you safer.

How often do you need to clean your razor though?  After every use, you should at the very least empty out the head and rinse it off with water.  Some razors come with a cleaning station and if you have that, use it after every use.  If you don’t have a cleaning station, you should do a deep clean of your razor once a week.  But no matter what, a daily cleaning of your razor will keep it sharp and safe and give you a close shave.

2. Charge Only When Needed

Not many of us think about the importance of how we charge our razor, but it can make a difference in the performance and longevity of your electric shaver.

Overcharging your battery might cause it to overheat or not hold a charge as efficiently.  Some newer models use batteries that can’t overcharge even if you leave it plugged in all the time but that isn’t the case for all models.

Don’t let your battery run completely down either because that can cause problems too.  If you let your razor fully drain, you might pick it up in the morning only to have it too weak to give you a proper shave.   It takes time for the razor to get enough charge to provide you with a good shave and you might not have that kind of time as you get ready.

The best advice for charging your battery is to read the instructions.  The instructions will let you know what capacity you can charge the razor and how long that should take.  You want to charge the razor only when you need it because that keeps the battery working better for longer and makes sure your razor is always ready to go.

3. Use A Case for Protection

How many times have you dropped an electronic device?  It’s too numerous to count for us and probably for you.  We have cases for everything from phones to laptops to tablets; it makes sense to have a case for your razor too.

Not only is a case a great place to keep your electric shaver when you aren’t using it, but it also provides protection if you drop it or it falls off the sink.  The case will also protect the head of the razor from dust and other debris that can gunk up the blade and cause it to dull faster.

While we’re talking about protecting your razor, don’t tap it on the side of the sink to knock out the hair trapped in the head.  There is a better way to clean it and tapping or knocking the razor on your sink can cause the mechanics of the razor to jostle and break down faster.  It might not happen the first time you do it, but if it’s a habit that constant tapping will wear down your shaver sooner or later.

4. Use Lubrication

One of the many reasons we decided to get an electric razor because we could shave our face without the hassle of shaving cream or other lubrication.  But that doesn’t mean you can skip all oiling.  We might not need to use shaving cream, but we do need to use lubrication on our razor heads.

Lubrication reduces the heat on the blades and rollers which makes your shave more comfortable.  It also helps the moving parts in the razor last longer as well as puts less stress on the motor.  Finally, a well-oiled electric shaver gives you a closer shave.  Because there is less heat generated from the blades, you can use more passes and get a smoother shave.

How do you lubricate your shaver?  You can either choose a spray or a multi-purpose light oil such as hair clipper or sewing machine oil.  No matter which option you use, lubricate the shaver after cleaning the razor.  With sprays, you can simply spray the blades after a thorough cleaning.  If you have a rotary razor, make sure you disassemble the heads before you spray.

If you decide to use a light oil, just put a drop or two of oil on the blades or directly into the foils and let it run for a few seconds.  The oil should get into all the parts, and your razor is ready to use.

5. Replace Foil or Cutter

This is another obvious but important maintenance tip.  Make sure you regularly change the blades and/or foils on your razor.  After a while, these will start to break down and dull.  A dull blade is the best way to get a nick or nasty cut and remember, if you aren’t regularly cleaning the blades, bacteria can cause an infection.

About every 12 to 14 months you should replace the blades or foil.  Check the manufacturer’s instructions and only use the parts made for your specific razor.  A tip from us to you: check the price of the razor parts before you purchase the razor, so you aren’t surprised when it comes time to replace them.

6. Consider A Warranty

It might be a smart idea to invest in a warranty for your razor.  Even with proper cleaning and maintenance, things can still go wrong with your electric shaver.  A warranty can help with these things rather than trying to fix it yourself and make it worse or completely replacing it.

How to Clean Your Electric Shaver

Alright, now it’s time to learn how to clean your electric shaver properly.  We will give you specific instructions to help you determine the best way to clean your razor and keep it running smoothly.  We will also make sure to cover all the bases for various kinds of razors, so you know exactly what to do!

1. Taking Apart the Electric Razor

The first thing you need to do is take apart your razor if it can come apart.  Most razors come apart, but some are all one piece.  If your razor plugs into the wall, make sure it is unplugged as you clean it.  If it has batteries, remove those before you clean.  Make sure you take apart the razor over the sink or a garbage because loose hair and debris will fall out as you open the razor.

Rotary Head Razors

If you have a rotary head razor, the top should flip open.  On some models, you can pop the top completely off.  You should also remove the retainer that keeps the blades in place as well as the blades.  This will allow you to clean all the nooks and crannies of the razor.

Foil Razors

If you have a foil razor, you can pop off the protective foils to expose the blades.  Some of these razors don’t have that options, but most do.

Clipper Razors

If your electric razor has clipper blades, pop the head off to expose the blades.  Then, use a screwdriver to remove the blades so you can thoroughly clean them.

2. Cleaning the Razor

There are several steps to follow when cleaning your razor:

Dry Brush

Once you have disassembled your razor, then lightly tap the razor on your hand over the sink or garbage to dislodge any hair or debris.  Some razors come with a little brush to clean out the inside.  If you don’t have this brush, you can use a small nail brush, clean toothbrush, or small paint brush.

Use whatever brush you own to get into the crevices of the razor head and blades.  Brush as much of the hair, and dead skin off the blade as you can.  This is a crucial step because these are the things that dull the blade and can cause issues.

how to clean electric shaver

Water or Cleaning Spray

Some have a coating that allows them to be cleaned with water while others don’t.  If you can use water on your blades, rinse them off well after dry brushing.  Then, with a little soap and hot water, use the brush to scrub the blades and all other removable parts of the razor.  The soap and hot water will help get rid of bacteria and keep your razor safe.

You can also buy cleaning sprays that are safe for razors that can’t be used underwater.  Spray the blade and other razor parts and rub with the brush.  If you do decide to use the spray check to see if it also contains lubricant.  Some sprays combine both so that you can kill two birds with one stone.

Sanitize

If you want to take sanitizing a step further, you can use rubbing alcohol to clean the blades and parts of your razor.

Dampen a cloth, Q-tip, or cotton ball with a little rubbing alcohol and apply to the blades and razor after you dry brush and clean.  The alcohol will help kill any lingering bacteria and keep your electric razor clean and sanitary.

Cleaning the Body of the Razor

It’s also a smart idea to clean the outside body of the razor.  While the body of the razor might not directly affect your shave, the oil from your hands can break down the material over time.

You can use an alcohol-based wipe to clean the body or merely dampen a paper towel with a little water and a dab of soap.  Wipe down the body and then use a clean paper towel to wipe off any excess soap.

It’s also a smart idea to clean the outside body of the razor.  While the body of the razor might not directly affect your shave, the oil from your hands can break down the material over time.

Drying

Do not skip the drying step.  If you leave any water on the blades or in the razor itself, the metal will rust.  Rust will essentially render your razor useless, and all your cleaning and maintenance will be for nothing.

Once you have finished cleaning the blades and razor, lightly pat with a clean towel to remove any water.  Once towel dried, lay out all pieces on a clean towel to air dry before you reassemble the razor.

3. Reassembly

Once the blade and razor parts are completely dry, you can put the razor back together.  Once you put all the pieces together, apply lubricant to the razor and run it for a few seconds.  Remember, you can get a spray or use a light oil to lubricate the razor.  Place the razor back in its case and store it safely, so it doesn’t get knocked around.

Clean up any hair around the sink and run the brush you used under hot water to clean it off.  Let the brush air dry before you put it away, so it’s ready to use next time you clean your razor.

Final Words

I’d recommend you deep clean your electric shaver following these steps at least once a week and twice a week if you have the time.  You should always empty the hair and debris out of the head of the razor after every shave.

Braun Series 7 760cc Electric Shaver Review

Braun, a German-based company, produces shavers and trimmers for men. The series 7 electric shavers add to the reputation of Braun with the 760cc, 790cc and the 799cc models. Each of these models is a cordless, rechargeable shaver with all new features and options.

In this article, I will review the Braun 760cc shaver. I will talk about the shaver itself, its shaving experience and provide you with a comparison of the different series 7 models. I will also cover the pros and cons of the 760cc and tell you who the shaver is best designed for.

A Quick Glance at the Braun 760cc

SUMMARY

A wet/dry foil shaver from the famous high quality series 7 by Braun. It has a cleaning station and provides close quality shaves.

Note: there's a new version of this shaver - It's very very similar to the one I'm reviewing here. There minor (good) changes that were made. (I will link to the new version instead of the old one)

THE GOOD

  • Wet/ dry shaving
  • 5 minute quick charge for one shave
  • Self-cleaning and charging station
  • Head pivot lock to reach tough areas.

THE BAD

  • Cleaning station lacks features (fixed in newer version)
  • Pricey

SPECS

  • Battery: 50 Minutes
  • Charging Time: ~1 Hour
  • Wet / Dry: Yes
  • Shaver Type: Foil

Overview of the Braun 760cc

The series 7 shavers were designed with the average user in mind. If you have never used an electric shaver before, the 760cc may take extra time to get used to. Unlike razors, electric shavers have special techniques to get a close, comfortable shave.

The 760cc is ergonomically designed and very lightweight. The shaver itself weighs less than half a pound. It has fully flexible foil heads that contour to your face providing a close shave for all skin types.

The 760, like all of the other series 7 shavers is cordless. It uses a lithium-ion battery pack that fully recharges in one hour. On a full charge, it will shave for up to 50 minutes. The charger also has a quick charge setting that will provide enough battery life for a full shave in just five minutes.

The 760cc shaver is waterproof and can be used in the shower, on dry skin or with shaving gels and foams. Rinsing the foil heads under running water is preferred and will keep the shaver clear for a better shave.

760cc and 7865 accessories

Accessories

Out of the box, you get everything you need for a complete shave. You get the 760cc shaver as well as a travel pouch. The pouch is used to pack your shaver away without having to resort to sandwich zipper bags.

You also get a cleaning brush so you can remove dust, dirt, and debris from the shaver to help keep the foils clean and ready to go. The Smartplug cord will charge your shaver using any outlet between 100 and 220 volts.

Lastly, you get the clean and charge station that also has cleaning fluid refills included. The charging station will recharge your shaver while also using an alcohol-based solution to clean the foil heads and blades which prolong the life of the heads and offer you a fresh shave every time.

Features

The 760cc is packed with features designed for comfort, durability and close shaves.

Five Shaving Modes

You can select the speed of the motors to adjust the type of shave you get. Using push buttons on the handle, you can select from sensitive all the way up to turbo.

Intelligent Sonic Technology

The sonic sensors check the density of the hairs being cut 160 times per minute. The shaver will adjust its power level to give you a boost where it is needed most. This will eliminate multiple passes over the same area to prevent irritation.

Special Shaving Heads

The 760cc has four distinct shaving elements. The two opti-foil head covers get closer to your skin which makes your shave last longer. The ActiveLift trimmer picks up hairs that are laying on your skin, so nothing is missed. Protective SkinGuard smooths the skin for exceptional shaving.

The shaving head pivots 40 degrees to maintain contact with your skin. Each shaving head and the ActiveLift trimmer has an individual suspension to maneuver over the smallest contours.

Precision Head Lock

You can lock the head to better shave in hard to reach areas such as under the nose or chin.

Build Quality & Reliability

The Braun 7600cc is made for daily shaving. The long-lasting heads, blades, and battery provide you with months of dedicated service.

The 760cc is light weight and easily portable making it a good option for daily shaving without experiencing fatigue. The shaver is ergonomically designed to fit your hand comfortably with all of the required features just a finger movement away.

As with most other Braun products, the 760cc comes with a two-year limited warranty that covers the shaver against defects and craftsmanship. The blades, foils, and trimmers are not covered as these parts will need to be replaced. It also does not cover accidents or damage caused by neglect.

760cc User Experience

Using the 760cc and having the results you want are the most important things. You can add all the bells and whistles to a shaver, but if it doesn’t do the job, it doesn’t matter. How does the 760cc perform?

Battery

The battery really does charge to full within an hour. I don’t find this a huge draw since I rarely need to shave more than once a day. However, I am akin to forgetting to charge shavers after I am done using them, which has resulted in a dead battery in the past.

Luckily, Braun got you covered with the quick charge setting. You can put the shaver on quick charge, and in 5 minutes you will have enough battery power for one complete shave.

The charging station is also a cleaner for the shaver, so it is a lot larger than just a cord you plug in and lay down. However, it isn’t overly huge. You can easily store the charger on the counter near the sink or the back of the toilet without having to fight for space.

Shaving Experience

Once you actually use the shaver, the performance speaks for itself. Tough to reach spots and tangles don’t affect the 760cc and it cuts even the coarsest hairs down with little effort. If you have a full beard or haven’t shaved for a few days, you will need to make multiple passes even though their technology says otherwise.

If, however, you shave daily, you will notice less shaving time and less irritation because you aren’t constantly going to the same spots.

The shaver is light but fits nicely in your hand. The 760cc also uses what Braun calls “active cooling technology” that does work. The coils keep cool, and the shaver doesn’t heat up against your face.

It doesn’t matter how long or short your hair is, the shaver will take it down to your skin. However, if you do have a full beard, I suggest you cut it down to a more manageable length before using the shaver. You can use the trimmer on the side for this, and while it may take a few minutes longer, it does work well.

The shaver is fairly quiet although there will be some noise. There are louder shavers on the market. The noise from the motors and the cutting isn’t painfully loud though, and you won’t be bothered by noise.

Cleaning & Maintenance

The shaver is easy to clean. You can submerge the entire unit underwater (up to 5 meters) so rinsing it off while using is simple. You can also use it in the shower and rinse it under the shower head if needed.

If you use shaving cream, gel or foam, the foils will still cut the hairs. However, you will need to rinse the heads more often to prevent them from getting clogged.

Maintenance cleaning is simple as well. Using the charge and clean station you can let the alcohol-based solution take care of the major cleaning for you. There is also a brush that you can use to keep the head clean and free of debris.

For weekly or even monthly maintenance, you can remove the foils and rinse them separately and run the blades and head under running water to wash out any build up or blockages.

Who Should Buy the Braun 760cc

Anyone with facial hair that has some experience with electric razors will benefit from the 760cc. If you have never used an electric razor before you may have a tougher time getting used to the methods required to get the best shave possible.

However, those with some experience that are looking for a shaver that will tackle stubborn hairs, coarse hairs and want the ability to take their shaver with them will like using the 760cc.

Note: If you think that the 760cc is the shaver for you, I really recommend buying the newer version of this shaver - it's cheaper and better. Click below to read more about it.

Panasonic Arc5 vs Braun Series 9 - How Do These High End Shavers Line Compare?

Braun Series 9 vs Panasonic Arc5

If you’ve been searching for a new razor, you’ve likely already found some info on both the Panasonic Arc 5 and the Braun Series 9.

They’re arguably the two most advanced and popular electric shaver product lines in the world. While they both have a lot to like, choosing between the two can be very confusing.

Both product lines have several different electric shaver models. Some have subtle distinctions while others are significantly different. So comparing the two lines isn’t always very straight-forward.

I spent a lot of time researching these product lines and their different shavers . Here’s a complete look at the differences and similarities between the two.

The complete round-up of the Panasonic Arc 5 vs Braun Series 9 starts right now.

Braun Series 9 Overview

Braun’s latest and most heavily advertised shavers line is the Series 9. This series replaced the Series 7, a formerly popular model with now out-dated technology, but nonetheless series 7 is still a great choice which won't disappoint you.

Here’s where things get a little confusing. The Series 9 is further divided into two different generations: The original Series 9 and the updated Series 9. The original series had problems that were fixed in the updated series.

braun series 9

The original Series 9 has three different models:

1. The 9095cc is wet/dry use and has an automatic cleaning station.
2. The 9090cc also has an automatic cleaning station but is dry use only.
3. The 9093s has no cleaning station and can be used either wet or dry.

The updated Series 9 also has three models to choose from:

1. 9295cc
2. 9290cc
3. 9293s

Updates are relatively minor. The models have a titanium-coated HyperLift & Cut Trimmer. These models are also available in silver.  The updated Series 9 can be identified by the distinct gold foil. All the models in the updated series are wet/dry.

The updated models are more durable over a long period of time. Occasionally, the shaving head on the original Series 9 models would break after extensive use. Otherwise, there’s really no significant difference between performance (although there can be a difference in price).

Here's a table with the original and updated models. As usual, models with 'cc' include a cleaning station and models with 's' don't.

Arc 5 Overview

This is Panasonic’s flagship shaver. The name refers to the arc-like shaving head design and the number of individual cutting elements. Like the Series 9, the Arc 5 is also divided into different generations.

The first generation of Arc 5 shavers was released in 2009. The two models in this earliest generation are:

1. ES-LV61-A
2. ES-LV81-K

In 2013, the second generation was released. Generation two shavers have a sleeker, more modern design. 2nd gen shavers are:

1. ES-LV-65-S, which has no cleaning station
2. ES-LV-95-S, which has an automatic cleaning station which uses detergent sachets.

Finally, the third generation was released in 2015. The models are:

1. ES-LV-9N-S
2. ES-LV-6N-S

The 9N model has an automatic cleaning station while the 6N has no cleaning station. For markets outside of the U.S, the 9N becomes 9A and the 6N becomes 6A.

This third generation has an improved texture on the thumb rest. The front-to-back tilt to the head is extended from 17 degrees to 20 degrees. A low battery alarm was also added. While the changes are useful, the basic shaving performance remains unchanged from generation one.

For this review purposes, I compared the latest model of the Arc 5 with the latest model of the Braun Series 9. However, the earlier models of both have the same basic performance and can often be significantly cheaper. (There are major differences in the cleaning stations while I’ll discuss later.)

User Experience: Arc 5 vs Series 9

Let’s take a deeper look at the features found on each shaver:

1. Battery

All models are cordless and include a charger. If the battery runs out, you can operate the shaver when it’s plugged into the wall. (Just the dry ones)

Full charging time for each is about an hour, but you can usually get enough power for a quick shave within about five minutes of charging. (aka quick charge)

Cordless shavers give you more freedom than corded ones. You can charge up the shaver and take it on a trip, keep it a desk drawer or generally bring it along wherever you go.

2. Shaving Time

Shaving time can be difficult to determine. Individual hair length and thickness will be a big factor. Most shavers can handle thick, tangled beards with ease.

However, the Arc 5 has a faster and more powerful motor. At 14,000 CPMs, this is one of the fastest motors found in any shaver, well, ever. If speed is a major concern, you’ll want the Arc 5.

3. Shave Quality

Features are great but the most important aspect of any shaver is how your face looks and feels after you’ve finished shaving. In order to determine shave quality, I took a look at closeness, comfort and the wet/dry capabilities.

Shaving Closeness

When comparing rotary vs foil shavers, foil shavers generally provide the closest shaves. (not including safety razors of course).

Both the Arc 5 and Braun Series 9 are no exception. You likely won’t be disappointed with either.

However, if you’re looking for the absolute closest shave possible, I give the edge (no pun intended) to the Arc 5.

Panasonic combines a few factors. The unique arc of the foils connects with the contours of your face. Plus, the Arc 5’s blades also have a relatively high 30-degree bevel to the blades.

Shaving Comfort

While the Arc 5 allows for a closer shave, I found the Braun Series 9 to be far more comfortable. Most of this is due to the head design as well as the unique grip.

The foils on the Series 9 remain cool even after extended use. On the other hand, the Arc 5 foils can overheat. Shaving with a hot electric shaver can cause rashes, especially if you have sensitive skin.

If you’re prone to blemishes and skin rashes or have a sensitive skin, the Series 9 is probably the better choice. It’s also a good choice if you have a thicker, heavier beard which results in longer than normal shaving sessions.

panasonic arc5 vs Braun series 9

Panasonic Arc 5

Wet/Dry

Wet shaving is often more comfortable while being able to shave dry skin is more convenient. Most people prefer a shaver which can be used on both wet and dry skin.

All of the shavers in the Arc 5 line are both wet/dry. Most of the Series 9 shavers are also wet/dry, with the exception of the 9090cc. Basically, if you want a wet/dry Series 9, you’ll want one of the new models.

However, the situation becomes a little more limited if you want to use shaving creams or gels. All of the Arc 5 models let you use whatever shaving cream or gel you like. You can then easily clean the shaver by popping it into the cleaning station.

The Series 9 is different. While you can use the wet/dry Braun models in the shower, you can’t use them with shaving cream. In a rather bizarre design move, shaving cream will clog and damage the cleaning station.

If you want a Series 9 shaver which works with shaving cream, you’ll need either the 9093s or 9293s models. Neither of them has a cleaning station. Of course, if you’re willing to manually clean the shaver than any Series 9 can be used with shaving cream.

  • Shave Quality  - The Winner

If you want the closest shave possible, go with the Arc 5. However, the Series 9 shavers are generally a better choice if you have sensitive skin because the foils remain cool to the touch.

If you prefer shaving with creams or gels, the Series 9 shavers require a lot more maintenance. With the Arc 5, you can use shaving creams and gels with very little fuss. Simply put the shaver into the automatic cleaner and you’ll be good to go.

If you’re interested in dry shaving with a minimum of skin irritation, go for the Series 9. A model with a cleaning station is probably a good choice. But if you want the fastest, most powerful shaver I’d recommend the Arc 5.

Build & Design: Arc 5 vs Series 9

Shaving quality will be strongly influenced by the design of the shaver. I compared the build and design of both the Arc 5 and the Series 9.

1. Build Quality

No real problems with either one here. Both shavers are built to last. Historically, Braun is an innovator regarding shaver design. But today Panasonic has certainly caught up in terms of quality.

The Braun Series 9 is primarily made from plastic with a chrome, silver or glossy black finish. While the shaver will remain functional over the years, the appearance of the plastic will likely fade over time. This is especially true is the shaver is often wet.

Also, the Braun Series 9 will show fingerprints fairly easily. The one exception here is the 9290cc which has a silver matte finish. If you want your shaver to always look brand new, avoid the glossy finish.

The early generations of the Arc 5 have a plastic body similar to the Braun Series 9. However, the most recent version of the Arc 5 is made from metal. This makes the shaver stronger, more durable and definitely better looking than the Series 9.

comparing series 9 and arc5

Braun 9 shaving head

2. Shaving Head

The two shavers have very different heads. The first thing you’ll likely notice is the size. The Arc 5 has one of the largest heads I’ve ever seen on a shaver. While this large head does cover a lot of area quickly, it’ll likely take some getting used to.

The Series 9 has a more traditional shaving head. With four cutting elements, the head is smaller and more maneuverable.

I prefer the head on the Arc 5. It’s the only one of the two which can be depressed, making it easy for shaving the jawline.

Here’s a video showing how to shave a jawline which illustrates the benefits of a depressed head:

Plus, the latest generation of the Arc 5 has gold rollers which are quite visually impressive.

3. Grip

Both are quite easy to hold with textured rubber materials. If you’re only interested in dry shaving, the grip doesn’t really matter. But if you’ll be using the shaver in the shower with shaving cream, the Arc 5 is probably the best choice.

Overall, I’d call this one a draw. Both shavers are comfortable to hold and easy to maneuver.

4. Design

While design is a matter of personal preference, I suspect most people will agree when I say there’s really no contest here. The Arc 5 is clearly the better-looking device.

With metal construction and gold foil, the Arc 5 looks far more sophisticated and classy than the Series 9. There’s nothing wrong with the Series 9, but it just doesn’t have any pizazz. However, the Series 9 with the silver matte is certainly the best looking among the generations.

5. Trimmer

Need to do some grooming or touch-up to the hair on your head? Both the Arc 5 and the Series 9 have long hair trimmers.

The Arc 5 trimmer is located behind and perpendicular to the shaving head. This is where the large head is actually a disadvantage. It gets in the way of the trimmer. For the best access you’ll have to remove the shaving head and blades.

The Series 9 trimmer slides forward. Although it doesn’t go beyond the shaving head, it’s far easier to access. On the other hand, the trimmer on the Arc 5 is clearly stronger and faster.

If you need an occasional trim, the Arc 5 will work. But if you frequently need to use the hair trimmer, the one on the Series 9 is far easier to access and use.

  • Build & Design  - The Winner

Most of the points here go to the Arc 5. The head is more powerful. The design is sleeker. The overall construction is sturdier.

While the Series 9 has a better trimmer and is a bit easier to maneuver, the best build and design belongs to the Arc 5.

Cleaning & Maintenance: Arc 5 vs Series 9

Your shaver will need to be cleaned regularly. Fortunately, both models have options for automatic cleaning.

1. Cleaning Station Review

Braun has been at the forefront of shaving technology for a long time now Their original cleaning stations were far superior to the older Panasonic models. If you’re buying the first generation of either, I feel confident in saying Braun will have better cleaning options.

However, Panasonic has really stepped up their cleaning station game in the last few years. Today, both of the latest generations of the Arc 5 and Braun have excellent cleaning stations.

The newest Panasonic models are different. They currently use sachets of detergent. These sachets can simply be added right to the cleaning station. Braun has cleaning cartridges which need to be dissolved in water before they can be used.

The Arc 5 sachets will save you money in the long run. They’re cheaper and last longer than cartridges. Panasonic models are also the only ones with Sonic Mode. This is a special vibration mode which removes dirt and debris. Activating Sonic Mode is as simple as holding the power button for two seconds.

2. Cost of Replacement Parts

With routine cleaning and care, you probably won’t run into any need for replacement parts. However, if you do need to make repairs, the Arc 5 will likely be cheaper.

The Braun Series 9 shavers are constructed with a cassette. This means the blades and foils are all made into one piece of hardware. If anything goes wrong with an individual component, you’ll need to replace the entire cassette. In general it's recommended to replace the head every 18 months. It will cost you around 50$.

The Arc 5’s blades and foils are able to be separated. You can replace individual parts easier. Also, this makes the Arc 5 easier to clean, too. A set of blades and foils will cost you around 50$ as well.

  • Cleaning & Maintenance  - The Winner

First, you’ll have to decide if an automatic cleaner is worth the expense. If it is, you’ll probably find the Arc 5 to be the better choice. Operating the cleaning station is cheaper and easier than using the ones found in the Series 9 line.

If you do choose the Arc 5, be sure and buy either a generation two or three. Those two generations have the updated cleaning station.

Who Should Buy What?

Both shavers have a lot to like. There’s no clear winner for every person. Instead, you’ll want to select a shaver based on your individual needs.

Each shaver is versatile, dependable and powerful. However, for the average consumer I’m more likely to recommend the Panasonic Arc 5.

The Arc 5 is the more powerful shaver. Plus, the all-metal construction both looks great and will last a long time. With a powerful motor and a larger head, shaving with the Arc 5 is a breeze.

The main reason you might prefer the Braun Series 9 is if you have sensitive skin. The cooler foil on the Series 9 helps prevent itchiness and breakouts.

Regardless of which shaver you choose, your face is sure to thank you. These are two top-of-the-line shavers with a lot to offer. Here’s to your new smooth, clean shave!

Electric Shaving Mistakes - Avoid Them to Get a Better Shave

electric shaving mistakes to avoid

Want to get a perfect shave using an electric shaver?

I've got some news for you!

There are many benefits to electric shaving, but turning on an electric shaver and gliding it across your face won’t give you the perfect shave.

From choosing the right shaver to cleaning it on a regular basis, there’s a lot to do to ensure your  shaving routine runs smoothly and gets you the results you want.

You also need to invest in some products that will up your shaving experience.

Here are some of the electric shaving mistakes that you should avoid to get a clean, close shave.

1. Getting the Wrong Shaver

Regardless of how carefully you shave, using a shaver that’s not right for you, will cause problems like a too-close shave (i.e. cuts and bleeding) or one that’s not quite close enough.

Although there are many electric shavers out there, it basically comes down to 2 types of shavers:

  • Foil Shaver
  • Rotary Shaver

Foil shavers should be used by guys who shave daily for a clean look. They’re easy on sensitive skin. These shavers have a thin metal foil that stops the blades from coming in contact with your skin. It's not a good choice for cutting long hair.

Rotary shavers adjust better to the face contours, especially the jaw and chin areas. They're better at cutting hair growing in different directions and long hair.

If you're looking for the stubble look, you should use a designated stubble trimmer.

2. No Pre & Post Shaving Routines

I'm a stickler for pre and post shaving routines.

It might take up more time at the beginning and end of your time in the bathroom, but it gives a better-looking shave. The time you spend on pre shave or post shave routine you save on fixing bad shaves, ingrown hairs, cuts and more.

Before anything, you should use a chafing gel to soften your skin. Let it sit on your face for about a minute to condition the skin before shaving.

A quality gel or lather lubricates the blade and makes hair softer. It stops irritating friction between the blade and skin. Pre-shave products may include a soap, gel, cream or oil. You can use a commercial gel, but some guys apply lather with a shaving brush, the old-fashioned way. Some experts swear by the brush and soap/lather method, but the commercial gel works fine as well. You should give both a try and see what's working for you.

When you're done shaving, always use an aftershave balm. It prevents razor burns, soothes your skin, keeps your skin pores clean and more.

Try to avoid alcohol-based aftershave lotion which gives a burning sensation and might dry your skin.

3. Bad Shaver Maintenance

You need to manually clean your shaver once or twice a week.

You should clean out all the debris and skin cells. The shaver will get clogged up and not work as well if you don’t clean it. The razor can fill with bacteria if it’s not cleaned often enough, so that’s incentive to keep it spotless.

Lubricating your shaver is extremely important. You should also replace the blades when it's time. When blades get too dull, they are filled with grease, hair and other debris, and that makes for a painful and less-than-precise shave.

Although most electric shavers come with a lubricant to clean the razor head, make sure to have a lubricant spray or oil on hand to keep razors sharp.

Your shaver will be at best when it’s properly maintained. Using it and just putting in back in the cabinet without cleaning it is the worst thing for it. Especially when it's a wet/dry shaver and you're not cleaning it after a wet shave, it will get clogged and you won't be able to use it. Some wet/dry shavers shouldn't be used with lather or gel because it will destroy the charging or cleaning units.

All shavers have a manual with cleaning instructions, but here is a brief description of how to clean your electric shaver.

Turn off the main switch and unplug the shaver. Lift the cutter head off its support.

Use a small paintbrush to remove hair from the cutter head. Run the brush over the frame and other parts associated with the cutter head.

Take apart the shaver and clean all removable parts with shaver cleaning fluid. Then rinse the parts in hot water.

Dry the parts with a towel. Then let them air dry. Put the shaver back together. Sometimes you can plug it in and oil it with a lubricant while it is running to keep it in good working order.

Always remember to dry the shaver after each use to get rid of lather, water, and even bits of blood.

electric shaver mistakes bad maintenance

4. Too Much Pressure On Your Face & Multiple Passes

An electric shaver doesn't cut as close as a manual razor, no matter how hard you try to get rid of a stubborn patch of hair.

If you try to press the shaver onto your face and skin you'll probably get it irritated. Electric shaver blades are sharp enough, so there's no need to apply extra pressure.

Using safety razors is more cut prone, unless you'll take your time learning how to use them correctly. Cartridge razors are milder and you can use more pressure when shaving.

Avoid doing multiple passes. It's tempting to go over your face a few times to get a close shave. But doing too many passes just irritates your skin and doesn’t remove more hair. Rotary razors take care of the extra hair without pressure or extra tries.

5. Wrong Shaving Motion

Rotary shavers follow facial contours, so move it in a circular pattern around hard-to-shave areas. When using a foil shaver, do a back-and-forth motion, against the grain for a cleaner shave.

It's important to hold the shaver at a right angle to the face. Use your free hand to pull the skin taut to make the hairs stand upright.  Doing this will reduce the time you spend shaving and will bring the shaver in direct contact with the skin.

6. Make Sure Shaver is Charged

Don't forget to keep your shaver charged. Using a shaver when it's not at it's full battery power will just hurt the motor, and the shaver will cut much less hair then what it can really cut.

7. Trying to Shave a Long Beard

If it's been a while since the last shave, using the electric shaver might not be the best option. If you have a short beard already, try to trim it using a a quality beard trimmer for example, and then use an electric shaver to finish off.

8. Give Wet Shave a Chance

If you have a wet/dry shaver consider giving wet shave a chance. Wet/dry shaver is great for a smooth, irritation-free shave.

Wet-dry shavers usually come with compact cleaning and charging units, and they allow you to shave with a shaving cream or gel.

Electric Wet Shaving Guide - Learn How to Master The Art of Shaving

Electric Wet Shaving Guide

Ready to forgo nicks, cuts, and scrapes to enjoy the perfect shave?

Wet shaving with an electric razor combines the flexibility and convenience of a battery-operated razor with the close shave of a manual razors so that you can achieve almost any look.

An electric razor is fairly easy to use wet, but there are some things to avoid. Not sure how to prep your skin or mitigate mistakes? You’re going to love this guide on how to wet shave with an electric shaver! I’ll be talking about shaving cream, equipment, lather, and a whole lot more.

There are a few steps to follow, so let’s dive right in.

The Pre-Shave Routine (It’s Important)

The steps leading up to wet shaving are similar whether you’re using a razor or an electric shaver.

Frankly, I really can’t stress enough how important it is to carefully prepare your skin. Especially if your skin is sensitive or you’re prone to ingrown hairs, failing to adequately ready your face and neck can lead to a lot of discomforts during (and after) your shave.

First, you need to gently wash your face with warm water (don’t use hot water, which will only irritate your skin). Make sure you don’t use the hand soap at your sink or the body wash in your shower; you need a soap that’s specifically made for your face so it won’t strip your skin’s natural oils.

You don't want to dry your skin. The dryer your skin is, the more difficult shaving will be. You should also avoid using a washcloth or scrubbing vigorously. While some gentle exfoliation is fine, you don’t want to bother your skin. Finally, don’t forget your neck!

At this point, you might also opt for a pre-shave oil. While some men feel like a good lather and warm water are all they need for a great shave, if you’re prone to skin irritation, you might find a pre-shave oil work wonders.

Often composed of natural ingredients such as:

  • check
    Argan Oil
  • check
    Jojoba Oil
  • check
    Coconut Oil

These ingredients can have a very positive effect on your skin. On top of that pre-shave oils help to soften the hair follicle and reduce skin inflammation ahead of your shave. Here is a great video explaining more of the oil’s benefits.

Lather Up

Ah, there’s nothing quite so luxurious as a great shaving lather! In fact, with a little care, this step can be one of the highlights of your grooming routine. A good lather is important for cutting through the hard outer alkaline layer of your hair and skin to help you achieve a smooth shave.

One thing I do not recommend is using shaving foams from a can. It looks convenient, but the propellant inside of the can dry out your skin. The propellant isn’t the only harsh chemical that typically makes up canned foam; this stuff also includes ingredients such as synthetic fragrances, alcohol, and stabilizers and preservatives. The more complicated the ingredient list, the more likely you are to end up with irritated skin.

The best shaving creams are those with natural ingredients. A good quality shaving soap doesn’t have to be expensive, and when paired with a decent quality shaving brush can quickly become worth every penny! You’ll find it also hydrates and soothes the skin, and will be filled with natural ingredients that your skin will love.

When you use a shaving brush and a cream, make sure you apply a thin layer of cream or soap to your face. A thick layer will only hinder your razor. You should plan on letting it sit on your face for at least three or four minutes, as this will help soften the cuticle so that the blade is not tearing the hair.

OK...It's Shaving Time

Now that you’ve prepped your skin thoroughly and you’ve applied your lather, it’s time to start shaving! Before using your electric shaver, make sure it’s not low on battery power.

I know it’s obvious, but listen up, a shaver has to work harder to get through shaving cream and is less likely to pull or tug if it isn’t low on juice.

One of the questions that always comes up is whether you should shave with the grain or against the grain. There’s no perfect answer; it depends on your skin, your hair, and the look you’re going for. A “perfect” shave will require several passes with and against the grain, while shaving with a rotary shaver means you can work in all different directions.

Typically, however, I recommend one pass with the grain and another against the grain. This seems to be a good combination of nice appearance with not too much discomfort.

Special note: when you’re doing a 2nd pass. Do not go over dry! Make sure you reapply lather or at least some water, so you don’t damage your skin.

After Shaving

You’re not quite done yet.

Once you’ve shaved, you’ll want to spend a few extra minutes on your post-shave routine. Wash your face with cool water, making sure you’ve removed all hair and lather reside that could look attractive or further irritate your skin.

I also recommend applying an aftershave, preferably one that doesn’t contain alcohol, which will sting and dry out your skin. Instead, look for ingredients like aloe vera, Vitamin A, shea butter, and witch hazel that help restore your skin’s natural oils.

Caring for Your Shaver

You're done with the shaving part, now you need to take care of your shaver.

Do not forget this step, but do check out your razor’s manufacturing directions for best cleaning and maintenance practices.

Because an electric razor is an investment (and because a poorly cleaned razor doesn’t work as well and can pull at and damage your hair), you’ll also want to use a drop or two of oil on your razor routinely. You might also need to replace the foil but again, check with your manufacturer for the best recommendations.

Once you’ve got a routine down, electric wet shaving can be an enjoyable way to get a great shave while also avoiding nicks, cuts, and scrapes. Carefully preparing your skin, using the right lather, and shaving according to the grain will help you get a look you’ll love in total comfort. Enjoy!
